August 21, 2021Good for the range i suppose
I purchased quite a bit of this ammo, about 150 rounds worth. It was visually like many products from lake city. Annealed and rather dirty. Not corroded by any means, Just Lake city ammunition in many different calibers seem to be dirty, spotted and oxidized in places. it did look like some had surface rust from MG links. The ammunition comes with varied coloured primer sealant… read more and appears to have neck sealant as well. Would make good long term storage ammo if paired with a water tight can. of which, Lining a standard 50 BMG can (like what Is sold here) with standard cardboard in single layer on all sides and the bottom, will allow you to fit about 135 rounds within. I gave a brief inspection of each round as i loaded them into the can, and did notice a few had dents where the case necks down to the bullet. This may be a concern for some, but i dont think they will effect anything too poorly. As for performance, well I got this for a plan to hold on too if i ever did get me a 50, so sadly i cannot comment there which is why i give it 3/5 for performance. It is standard M33 steel core ball ammunition though, so looking up how that performs should give you an idea.

August 4, 2021Damage to shoulder-neck junction
I have not fired any of the 50 rounds that I bought, but I did perform a cursory inspection. One cartridge at the shoulder-neck junction has a slit with a deep symmetrical teardrop-shaped divot at one end of the slit. The divot does not pierce all the way through the case wall, but it looks like it is about a hair's breadth away from doing so. Another cartridge has a curved teardrop… read more shaped divot (but not quite a through-and-through hole) and a more difficult to see slit about 1/8" away from the divot. (Pictures cannot be submitted, which is why I am describing it this way.) I was not expecting this surplus machine gun ammo to be pretty, but I am not sure these two rounds are even safe to use. Best case scenario, they fire without issue, but the brass is completely unusable for reloading afterwards. I am not going to buy more. I'll probably get some PMC ammo, which I had initially avoided simply because I figured good ol' American ammo would be sturdy enough for a fun day at the range, with brass to reload when I am done.

Are these reloaded shells
No sir, this ammo is new production.
This is a working ammo right is good for shooting
Yes sir, this is loaded ammo and fully functional.
In the photos of this .50 BMG ammo, there appears to be a bullet cannelure (groove) at the case mouth for crimping the cartridge case to the bullet. But there's also a 2nd cannelure appearing above that one. Is that correct?
Yes sir, that appears to be the case with the ammo we photographed. I know a second toothed cannelure on a 50 BMG bullet means it's an incendiary, but it's my understanding that a second, fainter bullet cannelure is not uncommon for M33 like this ammo.
Thanks for the quick response about date/year of manufacture of LC 50 BMG. Since this ammo is so old (40+ years), how reliable can it be ? I have no experience reloading and my knowledge is very limited in this area, but the manufacturer of the 50 cal.
Hi Robert! Well, we regularly sell surplus Soviet and WWII ammo. Occassionally cases become tarnished, and sometimes rounds can fail to fire. But if it has been kept dry, out of the light, and at stable temperatures, ammo could theoretically last indefini
I have always trusted "LC", but what is the date, or at least the year of manufacture of this ammo ? Thanks.
Thanks for reaching out Robert! Here is a detail of this round's headstamp: ibb.co/9nknZ4X. It's my understanding of LC's headstamps that this ammo must have been made in 1981. I can't guarantee with absolute certainty that you'll receive the same batch I
